Theory and Practice: Mann

Page history last edited by Alexander Ness 3 years, 4 months ago
This is a collection of the stuff famous dead white male composers used to teach their students. It includes Handel's systematic figured bass lessons for Princess Anne. These are good for students with no previous figured bass experience, though you have to work out the realizations yourself (all you get in the book are bass lines).

When teaching H&C 2, I shifted focus from the Handel exercises to Bach's figured chorales in Riemenschneider.

For fun (?), you can also check out some of Beethoven's sloppy and error-ridden "Gradus ad Parnassum" lessons for Haydn.

Click here for a scan of the figured basses.
